Our School Day

There is no such thing as a typical day at Primrose Hill as our activities are very much led by the children’s interests. It is fundamental that the children have as much opportunity to be outside as possible everyday.

Morning

Our morning begins with free flow activities within the classroom and the outside area. Children have the opportunity to choose between creative activities inside, sand and water trays, roleplay and reading. Outside they can enjoy cycling and playing on scooters. They can develop fine and gross motor skills with our construction areas and in running in the wide open spaces.

Snack

The snack bar is available throughout the morning. Children are offered a carbohydrate such as toast, muffin or pancake with cheese and fruit accompanied by milk and water. The children are encouraged to be independent, learning how to serve themselves, pour their own drinks and develop conversation across the snack tables.

Stories & Rhymes

Language development is paramount for us at Primrose Hill. Each day we have story and rhyme time, children listen and respond to stories, join into action rhymes, sing songs and learn classic nursery rhymes.

Outdoors

The children have opportunities to develop key skills in our nursery garden. The children can play musical instruments in our sensory area, cook up a storm in the mud kitchen, build in our large construction areas, enjoy gardening or explore in our outdoor classroom.

Cookery

Once a week we enjoy a cooking session. Children learn key cooking skills of weighing, mixing, peeling, chopping and slicing to make delicious treats.
